Can You Eat Soap?

The short answer is no.

According to good old artificial inteligence… ingesting soap can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and other digestive issues. If someone accidentally eats soap, it’s important to rinse their mouth with water and seek medical advice if they experience any symptoms.

(Just a side note here, although Soap By Sellers soap is natural and chemical free, no, my soap is not edible)

While conversating further with good old artificial intelligence, I was amused at how, in one instance, washing a child’s mouth out with soap is considered harmful, while brushing your teeth with soap, is not considered to be harmful. And so, I asked good old artificial intelligence the question why?

It gave me this answer:

While brushing your teeth with soap isn’t recommended, it’s generally less risky than washing a child’s mouth out with soap. Here’s why:

  1. Controlled Use: When adults brush their teeth with soap, they typically use a small amount and are careful not to swallow it. This minimizes the risk of ingesting harmful chemicals.

  2. Health Risks: Washing a child’s mouth out with soap often involves a larger amount and can lead to accidental ingestion, which can cause nausea, vomiting, and other digestive issues.

  3. Psychological Impact: The act of washing a child’s mouth out with soap can be traumatic and have negative psychological effects.

While neither practice is ideal, using soap as toothpaste is generally less harmful if done cautiously. However, it’s still best to use products specifically designed for dental hygiene to ensure safety and effectiveness.

If you have any more questions or need further information, feel free to ask!

And so, I done a little research of my own and could not find any instances of anyone getting sick after having their mouth washed out with soap or from brushing their teeth with soap, however, neither practice is advisable, and I did find plenty of cases of people being hospitalized from accidental poisoning from ingesting soap products, particularly liquid soap.

I know my bars of soap look deliciously like great blocks of white chocolate, but please don’t eat them.

:-)
