The First Soap
They reckon soap was probably made by accident some time in the distant past, maybe from some animal fat that mixed with ash.
The oldest written recipes date back to 5000 years ago - which makes sense, since no writing older than 5000 years has been discovered anywhere in the world.
This little excerpt comes from a Latin manuscript called “A Little Key to Everything”…
“Spread well burnt ashes from good logs over woven wickerwork … and gently pour hot water on them so it goes through drop by drop.… After it is clarified well, let it cook.… Add enough oil and stir very well.”
It’s quite an amazing substance really. Who would have thought, 5000 years after its origin, people like me would still be perfecting it?
By this measure Soap By Sellers is perhaps the pinnacle of soap in world history!
